Concentrations for Superabrasives (CBN and Diamond)
The concentration is an expression of the content by volume of the CBN or diamond grit in the grinding layer or in the bond matrix. According to the FEPA standard, for example, the concentration 100 corresponds to a CBN or diamond content of 4.4 carat (1 carat = 0.2 gram) per cubic centimetre of wheel layer or bond matrix.
The concentration is one of the most important features of a superabrasive grinding wheel and largely determines the removal rate, the tool life, the profile consistency and in the end also the price of the grinding wheel.
Meister uses the following designations for the various concentrations. The volume percentages, i.e. the percentage grain content in the bond, are to be noted here.
