Monocrystalline corundum

Monocrystalline corundum is obtained by a different fusing process. The chipping properties of monocrystalline corundum are similar to those of dark silicon carbide. Monocrystalline corundum has strong cutting edges and a high compressive strength. Its fields of use are chiefly: Working of high-alloy steels, grinding operations with high form and dimensional accuracy requirements. Also used in grain combinations.
