Hollow Beed Corundum
Because of its large chip spaces, hollow beed corundum, not to be confused with the new hollow micro-beed corundum, is chiefly used for machining particularly soft materials, such as plastic or rubber. A considerable portion of the hollow beeds , of varying size in the range from about 0.50 mm to about 1.0 mm, interestingly remain intact during the molding operation of the grinding wheel. They burst open only as a result of conditioning of the wheel and during its use. Hollow beed corundum not only reduces the frictional surface between the grinding wheel and the workpiece - "cool-cutting" - it also transports more coolant into the contact zone if fed correctly. In addition, the broken-open edges of the ball walls cut extremely easily, but are not especially resistant. |
